The California Institute for Innovation and Development (CIID), a program of the Rady School of Management, was founded to support the Rady School of Management’s philosophy of encouraging the development of ideas and fostering entrepreneurship. Under the direction of Lada Rasochova, PhD, MBA (Rady ‘08), the CIID program has grown to include StartR and mystartupXX accelerator programs, Triton Innovaiton Network Challenge, Rady Innovation Fellows, Rady Venture Fund and Pathways Ventures. All of these programs, combined with the many other unique learning opportunities of the Rady School, provide students with the opportunity to explore the many sides of innovation and entrepreneurship.
A non-profit six month accelerator, StartR provides current students and alumni the opportunity to participate in focused hands-on company development. Teams partner with mentors experienced in working with startups. At the conclusion of the program, each team pitches their company to local business and industry leaders at Demo Day.
The mystartupXX mission is to promote female students interested in entrepreneurship and help them to pursue their dreams of starting innovative, scalable, technology-driven companies. Teams participate in workshops where they focus on the various aspects of launching a startup. The mystartupXX program is open to all UC San Diego female students and female led teams.
IdeaConnect is a common ground for all students with an Entrepreneurial drive to share concepts, solve problems, and generate new ideas. By connecting the campuses and faculty throughout the university, the goal is to link together those who have technical expertise and industry experience with Business Students who have the ability to bring ideas to market.
Triton Innovation Network Challenge
Once a year, the Rady School of Management, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and Jacobs School of Engineering team up to present the Triton Innovation Network Challenge. This competition, open to students, faculty and staff of the three schools, focuses on environmentally relevant ideas and innovations. Individuals and teams at all stages of development are encouraged to apply.
Rady Venture Fund
The Rady Venture Fund provides both investment capital to entrepreneurs but also education opportunities and hands-on learning experience for Rady MBAs and other UCSD graduate students.
Rady Innovation Fellows
This program provides business assistance to UC San Diego faculty and students interested in commercializing their breakthrough and transformative research, technologies, products and new business models. Rady Innovation Fellows deploys teams of MBA students on demand to support commercialization of new technologies and assist entrepreneurial researchers as well as companies in various stages of development.
