What is StartR?
StartR is a non-profit accelerator program for Rady School of Management students and alumni designed to provide entrepreneurs the tools needed to start and grow their businesses.
Founded by a group of Rady students in 2013, this free six-month long acceleration program held on the Rady School campus accepts up to six teams per cohort. The program includes workshops, mentoring, advice and access to other resources for early-stage companies. At the conclusion of the program, teams present their pitches at Demo Day, attended by investors, industry experts and the San Diego community.
What are people saying?
“StartR helped not just in terms of mentoring but in creating the corporation and connecting us with other startups and people in the startup community. Most of Aira.IO’s team members are from UC San Diego so StartR provided us a meeting space to come together and really make progress towards developing our product, which was essential because you need to have your team together to make rapid progress.” - Suman Kanuganti (MBA ’14), Founder and CEO of Aira.IO
“The experience made us think big, and helped us move from an academic project into something real. The weekly discussions we had with experts Dr. Lada Rasochova and Kim Davis King, being able to meet with a group of like-minded entrepreneurs, and freely and openly communicate our high points and low points of the week in an open, honest, and nurturing environment was invaluable.” – Andrew LeBlanc (MBA ’15), CEO of Genrix (formerly Insilico Scientifice)
“The speakers and mentors of StartR come and talk exclusively to you. You can ask direct questions, share information and exchange ideas, which is very different from a setting of a class of 50 students. StartR was huge for me because before StartR, I was directionless. StartR gave me that direction.” - Rajdeep Sidhu (MBA ’15), Founder of Hydroceuticals
Who can participate?
At least one member of each team must be a current Rady School of Management student or alumni and be willing to act as a team leader. Teams at various stages of business development are encouraged to apply. Teams are expected to participate in workshops and meetings with their mentors, and to maintain contact with program leadership.
The application period for the Spring 2016 cohort has now closed and applications are being reviewed.
