StartR is a nonprofit accelerator for Rady School of Management students and alumni.
Founded in 2013 by a group of UC San Diego Rady School students working on an independent study project, the mission of the accelerator is to provide a program where early stage companies and student teams get mentoring, advice and access to other resources.
StartR participants have access to UC San Diego’s formidable research ecosystem, which is among the best in the world.
The Rady School of Management is ranked 19th globally in faculty research and 7th worldwide for entrepreneurship by The Financial Times.
StartR accelerates ventures of all kinds – from hardware-driven consumer products to mobile health software and nonprofit social ventures.
Tap into Rady’s alumni network of entrepreneurs -- many of whom start companies right after graduation.
Mentors customize appropriate goals for each StartR team – and then help the team keep their momentum.
What Is StartR?
StartR is a free, six month-long acceleration program held twice a year on the Rady School’s campus. Six teams are selected per each program. One member of the team must be a current student or alumni of the Rady School. The acceleration program is focused on hands-on company development and mentorship. At the conclusion of the program, StartR teams are given an opportunity to pitch to investors and industry experts.
What kind of support does StartR offer?
StartR provides the following benefits to entrepreneurs admitted to the program:
- Co-working space on the Rady campus
- Educational workshops
- Office hours with Rady professors, industry experts, and service providers
- Access to other funding sources at UC San Diego and the San Diego community
- Access to other resources (3D printing, etc.)
- Participation in the Demo Day at the conclusion of the program
