About the Program

This experiential class in mindfulness addresses the stress and pressures that work and life have on our minds, bodies and performance, and how to turn around the negative impact they have on our leadership capabilities, company culture and ultimately business results. Business leaders who attend will actively participate in a variety of mindfulness practices and discussions about ways that mindfulness can play an important role in strategic thinking, leading employees and influencing company culture.


  • Experiencing mindfulness practice.
  • Discussion: Problems in the workplace, exploring the issues together.
  • Understanding mindfulness. What are the benefits for the executive? For the company?
  • Performance under pressure.
  • Stress and its impact on self and business.
  • Mindfulness and compassion in business relationships.
  • Experiential components include: seated and walking meditations, mindful eating, mindful movement, mindful communication, mindful awareness and focus.
  • Didactic exercises include: shifting perceptions, responding vs. reacting, awareness vs. auto pilot, cultivating a non-judgmental attitude, the distracted brain.
  • Discussion: Bringing mindfulness into the workplace and integration into company culture.
  • Maintaining the practice. Next steps.

Who Should Attend

While the primary audience for this workshop is leaders in business, professionals in the field of mental health and executive coaching can also derive great benefit from the training. Therapists working from a mindfulness and acceptance framework with interpersonal, relationship and professional issues in their clients will find that this program prepares them to translate these practices into a business context.

About the UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness

The WorkLife Integration Program (WIP) at the University of California San Diego Center for Mindfulness is dedicated to delivering outstanding customized mindfulness resources that have a positive impact on business, individuals, and culture while integrating personal health and well-being with business success.

The Center for Mindfulness is a program within the UC San Diego Center for Integrative Medicine and Department of Psychiatry. The foundation of our work lies in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D at the University of Massachusetts Medical School Center for Mindfulness. The profound effects of this work are strongly supported by a large body of scientific research, some of which will be shared during this workshop.

Christy Cassisa, JD
Director, WorkLife Integration Programs

Christy’s career—which has traversed science, education, and the law—allows her to apply her unique background to her passion of helping people lead happier and more productive lives. As one of the founders and now the Director of the UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness WorkLife Integration Programs, she has been deeply involved in the effort to bring mindfulness to workplaces of all kinds. She has developed and taught numerous mindfulness-based programs and workshops for law schools, international corporations and attorneys, including Mindful Leadership, Introduction to Mindfulness for the Workplace and Brain Fitness for Lawyers. She is an MBSR teacher with the Center and is also the founder of The Institute for Mindful Works.

Prior to joining UCSD, Christy worked for 9 years at an international corporation in account management where she honed her skills in client presentations and relationship building. Christy graduated with a JD from the University of Missouri, Columbia School of Law and a BS in Life Sciences from Missouri Science & Technology, is certified to administer both the Myers Briggs Type Indicator® and the EQ-I 2.0, and is also trained as a professional coach.

Shannon Jordan, M.A.
Principal/Founder, Career Ingenuity Group

Shannon Jordan, M.A., has spent 25 years helping people thrive in their professional lives. Having observed how individuals can positively impact motivation, focus, performance, communication, creativity, leadership, and resilience in their careers, she founded the Career Ingenuity Group to help people within organizations understand how to optimize their own inner resources through mindfulness-based practices. She is currently teaching or developing programs at Qualcomm, eBay, Churchill Leadership Group, Cal State San Marcos, and UC Irvine.

She was on the founding team for Qualcomm's CareerX program, a talent development initiative providing workshops, coaching and assessment to employees across the globe. During her tenure at Qualcomm, Shannon integrated emotional intelligence, positive psychology and neuroscience-based mindfulness practices into her work with employees, leaders and their teams. Before moving into corporate work, Shannon served for 10 years as managing director of career development programs at UCSD Extension and on the evening faculty for USD's School of Leadership and Education Sciences where she continues to teach today.

Shannon holds a B.A. in Business and an M.A. in Counseling, and completed MBSR teacher training through UCSD Center for Mindfulness. She is 1 of only 100 Search Inside Yourself certified teachers around the globe. (SIY is the science-based mindfulness program that originated at Google). She is a Board Certified Coach, a National Certified Counselor and a National Certified Career Counselor. Shannon is a contributing author to the book Building Workforce Strength and also spent several years as an Ask-the-Expert columnist on workplace issues for Shannon has traveled the world extensively and lived in Singapore, but calls Solana Beach, where she lives with her husband and daughter, home.
