I have been active in professional societies ever since my undergraduate studies in chemical engineering. I am a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), which has offered me numerous opportunities to become involved in the community and allowed me to meet and network with other engineers. After I was accepted to the Rady School of Management, I wanted to become active in a similar society for MBAs. The National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) presented the perfect opportunity. NSHMBA does a fantastic job of marketing their scholarship and other community events. It was through NSHMBA's marketing communication that I learned about their scholarship.
It was an honor to be awarded a NSHMBA scholarship. The NSHMBA scholarship made a big difference in my education by helping to subsidize my tuition expenses. The scholarship also helped with the costs associated with attending NSHMBA's National Conference and Career Expo. The National Conference and Career Expo was an amazing opportunity to meet students from other MBA programs and to have in-depth conversations with representatives from large multinational corporations. It was an invaluable experience.
I am still active with NSHMBA and I look forward to playing a more active role in the future. Their scholarship program was extremely important to me and I now donate to their scholarship fund to ensure that future students will be assisted with their education.
Rady exposed us to a wide variety of industries and gave us the opportunity to interact with the San Diego business community. These opportunities combined with a first-rate education helped me to make the transition into a different industry.
