Rady MBA Wins Japanese Global Research Competition
Tetsuo Mizumuna (Full-Time ’09) was given a best research award by the Global Business Research Institution, a leading independent research institution in Japan, formed by the former vice minister of economy. The competition was supported by the Ministry of Economy Japan, JETRO, Samsung Japan, Sumitomo, 3M, Nissan and others.
Competition entries were asked to make a proposal to revitalize the Japanese economy, with a focus on policies to promote foreign direct investment.
For his entry, Mizunuma conducted research on the history of Japanese market liberalization, explaining foreign exchange, tariff rate and commerce laws, and how they impacted the Japanese economy. Based on his research, he concluded that Japan needs to dramatically relax employment and immigration laws, and made practical suggestions for these revisions.
The best research award came with a $5,000 prize. A banquet was held in Tokyo, attended by senior government officers and directors of top banks. Mizunuma is continuing to write on financial topics — he is one of the student authors for the Rady Business Journal, which will be published this summer.
