Center for Executive Development’s New Evening Series Helps Participants Launch or Expand Entrepreneurial Ventures
Do you have a great idea, but need to research, plan and get a crash course in business to make it work? Maybe you’ve already launched a company and need guidance in planning for strategic growth so it can realize its full potential. In either case, the Rady Center for Executive Development’s new evening courses offer an invaluable way to help entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs structure and meet their goals.
The Venture Development Series allows participants to take advantage of the expertise of a world-class university and veteran entrepreneurs from the San Diego area as they lead their business ideas or young companies toward market success. The series consists of a pair of programs, each meeting for 11 Tuesday or Thursday evening sessions scheduled between March 2 and July 22. New Venture helps aspiring entrepreneurs define their product or service concept and develop a plan for funding and launching a business, while Growth Venture helps entrepreneurs plan for the growth phase of their established company.
“All too often, someone has specific expertise and great idea, but they don’t have the business skills to turn it into a viable company,” says Rob Fuller, director of Rady's Entrepreneur Development Program and implementer of this course series. “New Venture is perfect for scientists, engineers or anyone with an innovative idea they would like to take to market. Once a business is established, it often outgrows the skills of its owner and becomes stagnant. Growth Venture helps company leaders define the opportunities that will drive the next stage of development.”
In New Venture, participants consider market opportunity assessments, business models and financing strategies for their business concept. A panel of industry experts provides insights on each participant’s business plan at the final session. This course is most relevant to those with innovation-based business concepts, such as products or services related to life sciences or technology. Growth Venture helps entrepreneurs examine their changing leadership roles, consider ways to maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace and work toward aligning all aspects of their businesses. Both courses offer one-on-one business coaching and feature guest speakers with topical expertise at each session.
The Venture Development Series utilizes FastTrac® NewVenture™ and GrowthVenture™, an award-winning, comprehensive package of entrepreneurship training materials developed by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and used by over 300,000 entrepreneurs worldwide. Dr. Fuller has led FastTrac® programs globally on three continents, training managers and aspiring entrepreneurs as well as executives and CEOs. He has also contributed to the development of the FastTrac® curriculum and training materials.
