About the Program

Building stronger, more productive teams requires and emotionally intelligence leader. The truth is that regular old IQ, technical know-how and subject expertise only get you so far in business today. Emotional Intelligence, or EQ, is the ability to manage your emotions and connect with others. This ability is critical in our culturally diverse, dispersed, fast-paced, global workplaces — and will make all the difference to your career.

While the first Emotional Intelligence course introduces the concept, the second part builds on the practical application of the theories to develop stronger relationships with individuals and to manage emotions in group dynamics.

Participants

Anyone who has taken Emotional Intelligence will gain more practice in applying the concepts and gain new knowledge to build on what we’ve already learned. Even if it has been years since taking the first course, part two will review and reaffirm your EQ goals from the first course.

Course Faculty

Dr. Rebecca Johannsen currently teaches Speech and Communication at Mercy College in New York, as well as teaching Theatre at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Dr. Johannsen holds a Ph.D. in Theatre from the joint doctoral program at UC Irvine and UC San Diego. She also holds a Master's degree in Theatre from SDSU.

Dr. Johannsen has focused on connecting acting skills with coaching public speaking for the last nine years, working with a variety of clients to improve public speaking skills, emotional intelligence, and creative problem solving. She trains with managers, engineers, research scientists, human resources managers, military, and government professionals in a wide variety of fields in San Diego, Los Angeles, New York, and London. She also actively works in the professional theatre, producing and directing works in New York City and London. Dr. Ernie Mendes is a professional development trainer, organizational consultant, executive coach and keynote speaker. He has been providing training & development since 1988 working with Managers, Scientists, Researchers, Law Enforcement, Educators, Engineers, Sales & Marketing Professionals, Corporate Trainers, Corporate Officers, Business Owners, and others. Dr. Mendes' diverse professional background includes a combined 23 years as a secondary and post-secondary educator and 11 years as a licensed psychotherapist in private practice.

Dr. Mendes holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology. He was one of the first to do a doctoral study on Emotional Intelligence (EI). He studied the relationship between E.I. and Occupational Burnout. His book Empty the Cup before You Fill It Up provides practical activities to build effective relationships at work and in a classroom setting using EI theory and neuroscience. His recent book Engage 4 Learning uses four main brain systems to engage K-Adult learners in the classroom and in training settings.
