Rady School alum, Silvia Mah (MBA ’10), is an accomplished accelerator, connector, investor and advocate for diverse founders in San Diego. In 2015, Mah won the “Individual in Services” award at the 2015 Pinnacle Awards for her support of female founders and funders to launch, grow and sustain successful female-owned businesses. The Pinnacle Awards recognize extraordinary individuals and organizations who personify Athena San Diego’s mission to foster personal and professional growth of women in the San Diego business community.

Mah was the Founder & Executive Director of Hera Labs, a unique business accelerator for aspiring entrepreneurial women to test ideas and grow their business. Under Mah’s direction, the accelerator helped over 350 women launch their passion-filled startups and take their businesses to the next level, creating more than 123 new jobs in the process. Mah is also an angel investor in female-focused endeavors and Co-Founder of Hera Fund, an angel fund for female angels investing in female founders.

With a background in biochemistry, Mah initially came to the Rady School to enhance her business acumen and expand her network. After a few courses highlighting entrepreneurship, Mah caught the entrepreneurial bug. “Rady supported me tremendously in the launch and growth of a business accelerator made for female change-makers and innovators. I cannot begin to express my gratitude to Rady, the faculty and the students for creating a safe place to grow ideas for maximum impact.”

In early 2019, Mah began the next chapter in her career as the President of CONNECT San Diego. CONNECT is an innovation company accelerator in San Diego that creates and scales companies in the technology and life sciences sectors, assisting in the formation and development of more than 3,000 companies since 1985. In her new role, Mah plans ‘to be a strategic architect; aiming to accelerate learning by listening, and achieve alignment of goals and visions to build more collaboration, connections, inclusion and cohesion’.
