DESCRIPTION

The Rady School of Management seeks an outstanding educator for the position of Executive Director of the Master of Business Administration Programs. The Executive Director is the working title, the position is classified as Academic Coordinator III and will be appointed on an academic year basis. Appointees in this series are not members of the Academic Senate and the appointment does not lead to tenure. The Rady School’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) is the school’s oldest self-supporting program. The program was approved by UCOP in 2003, and has been the flagship program for the Rady School for the last 16 years. The MBA program is delivered in a Full Time, Flex Evening (Part-time) and Flex Weekend (Executive) format.

Primary responsibilities:
The Executive Director will provide the management oversight and interface between the students/graduates and industry. The position provides formal supervision of all administrative, operational, and/or curricular matters relating to the program, develops strategy for preparing students for the job market, and provides guidance to several career staff employees. This position will be expected to develop and teach graduate courses in the MBA program.

Interface with Industry:
The core of the Rady MBA program emphasizes knowledge in the core business functions (i.e., marketing, finance, leadership, management, and operations). The person selected for the position will require considerable strength in these areas to position students for the job market. Additionally, the Executive Director must come to Rady with a global network of academic, government, and business contacts.

Curriculum Development and Management:
The individual selected for the position will independently lead the curricular development for all MBA cohorts. This person will help to prepare students entering the job market to ensure they have the essential skills necessary to develop tools for data-driven business decision making. The job market for new graduates is fast-changing and competitive. The successful placement of Rady School graduates necessitates the leadership of a director who has an intimate knowledge of business and related fields. This person must be adequately experienced to identify and generate topics for the curriculum, as well as employment opportunities for which our career services center does not have the specialized expertise. The knowledge and experience necessary to successfully achieve these goals comes from a professional background with a blend of both academic and business experience.

Placement of Graduates and Teaching:
The Executive Director will place students with high value, national and international firms in various industries; create industry alliances that lead to internship opportunities; independently lead the capstone projects; and manage related operational funds. This individual will be expected to develop and/or teach 2 to 3 courses per year in the MBA program, and the individual will collaborate with Rady faculty on curriculum development and all other crucial aspects of the position requirements to ensure programmatic success.

REQUIRED

  • Applicants must have a masters degree
  • Experience with teaching and development of graduate level business courses.
  • Commitment to supporting teaching excellence at the graduate level.

PREFERRED

  • PhD in Business Administration, strongly preferred.
  • Considerable strength in marketing, finance, leadership, management, and operations to position students for the job market.
  • Extensive knowledge of the analytical tools used in industry and come to Rady with a global network of academic, national and international business contacts.
  • High level administrative management experience, including planning, leadership, and analysis.
  • Ability or potential to provide educational leadership by developing a curriculum that emphasizes core concepts, problem solving, and the development of critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to successfully address the educational and academic needs of a diverse student population, including developing and updating curriculum and instructional strategies for the educational advancement of students from groups who are underrepresented in higher education.
  • Substantial breadth of business administration knowledge, as evidenced by a PhD.
  • Excellent communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize effective collaboration with a diverse community of campus and external colleagues.

DESCRIPTION

The   Rady School of Management  at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body. The Rady School invites applications for one or more positions for a Teaching Professor with security of employment (equivalent to tenure) at the Associate or Senior level. The teaching faculty series at UC San Diego (whose official title is “Lecturer with Security of Employment”) carries equivalent rights and responsibilities as the more traditional tenure-track faculty series. Teaching Professors are expected to place a stronger emphasis on teaching and scholarly activity related to education than on traditional disciplinary research activities. This appointment confers membership in the Academic Senate.

The Rady School seeks candidates who have demonstrated that they are strong educators in the following disciplines: accounting, business analytics, economics/strategy, finance, innovation, technology, and operations, management, marketing, and other mainstream business school disciplines. Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have completed a terminal degree in their respective discipline, or exceptional professional achievement and activity. Applicants should also have a teaching record equivalent to a tenured professor. Applicants at the senior (Full) level should have teaching and professional accomplishments that have made the candidate a recognized leader in his or her professional field and/or in education.

The Rady School seeks candidates whose scholarly activities/research, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education. Preference will be given to candidates with scholarly records, demonstrated teaching experience with professional graduate students, and experience mentoring PhD students.

Salary and appointment level are dependent on experience and based on University of California pay scales. The positions are expected to have a start date of July 1, 2020.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or be working toward completion of a Ph.D. by the start date of the new academic year (July 2020).
