Professor Krishnan Receives Distinguished Fellow Award

The Product Innovation & Technology Management College of the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) has named Vish Krishnan, Rady School of Management Professor and the Sheryl and Harvey White Endowed Chair in Innovation, Technology & Operations, a Distinguished Fellow. Designation as a Fellow is the most prestigious honor awarded by the society, and is given for life.

The POMS College of Product Innovation and Technology Management's mission is to create a closely-knit community of researchers, educators and practitioners engaged in studying and disseminating issues that arise in the management of technology and new product innovation.

The committee that selected Professor Krishnan for the Distinguished Fellow award recognized his tremendous contribution to the field with his service. "During his career, Professor Krishnan has been crucial in establishing the field of New Product Development as part of Operations Management through his contributions to research, his mentoring and service to the field," the committee said in the award citation.

"I am grateful for the Distinguished Fellow award - given to a top scholar every year, as it shows recognition from accomplished peers and visibility to the school," Professor Krishnan said. "During the award ceremony, I was glad to see the Rady School name mentioned among faculty from other top schools. Innovation and Technology Management is an emerging area, and it is good to see UC San Diego being part of this area's growth. These topics are also core to our mission at the Rady School and I believe we are realizing the original vision of the school."

Professor Krishnan also outlined the importance of the POMS College of Product Innovation and Technology Management to his field.

"Innovation and Technology Management really broadens the field of Operations Management by bringing new energy and degrees of freedom," Professor Krishnan said. "Historically, Operations Management has largely been focused on waste elimination and continuous improvement in large companies. While this remains important, it is also useful to tackle the growth sector of the economy and the scalability challenges of social entrepreneurs. Product Innovation and Technology Management aspires to do just that!"
