U.S. Immersion Program

The U.S.-Israel Center on Innovation and Economic Sustainability brings students

together to learn from one another. We engage business, civic, and academic

communities in global innovation and business development, continually broadening

understanding of the forces that shape innovation economies. We aim

to generate new businesses, launch entrepreneurial relationships,

connect Israeli and American professionals, and apply academic

rigor to solve the toughest corporate and societal problems.


Main Objectives of the Program

Course Information

TOPICS IN INNOVATION: Bringing a Product to the U.S. Market

The Rady School of Management at UC San Diego has founded a groundbreaking center connecting visionaries and entrepreneurs across borders in academic collaboration, education and the translation of technology into new market opportunities. The U.S.-Israel Center on Innovation and Economic Sustainability (USIC) empowers entrepreneurs in San Diego and Israel to collaboratively examine and address factors in the success of startup companies, innovation and sustainability. The creative collaboration fostered by the center has the potential to make a significant global economic impact. The mission of the Center is to foster channels for learning and collaboration among the next generation of business leaders in Israel and the U.S.

This course aims to meet this objective through the San Diego Immersion program that brings 20 UCSD graduate students and 20 graduate students from leading universities in Israel together for a one-week intensive course in San Diego.

Students will research the US market (e.g., competition, barriers for entry, customers, positioning, etc.) for Israeli start-ups and pitch their Go To Market strategy to a panel of experts. In order to prepare for this pitch, and to enhance the learning experience, students will visit several local businesses, start-up companies, accelerators, incubators, and learn from industry professionals.

The Approach

Working in mixed groups, students will be assigned an Israeli startup that is interested introducing its product/service to the US market. Each group will receive client brief that will consist the company’s information and will be required to do the research required to develop a Go To Market strategy and present it to the client and top potential US-based investors. To equip students with the necessary skills and tools the course will take a unique educational approach that will include daily class meetings, visits to local businesses, incubators, accelerators, organizations, and meetings with community leaders. This educational experience will focus on San Diego’s eco-system in general, with an emphasis on its unique technological and socially responsible personality.


Course Details

This course will span six full days (Monday-Saturday), as well as a welcome reception on Sunday, March 24, 2019 and student presentations during the morning hours of Saturday, March 30, 2019. Students will be assigned to teams and Israeli startups by mid-January, 2019. All teams are expected to start collaborating and working on their respective projects upon team assignment.  

Each team must submit their Report and Pitch Deck. Details on the expected deliverables will be provided to admitted students.
