Orientation & Program Start Dates

Orientation and program start dates can be found below.

  • Pre-term courses begin August 26th.
  • Required orientation will begin September 12th.
  • Fall quarter starts September 26th.
  • You are no doubt excited to start classes in the fall! Incoming students do not need to register for fall classes until August 2024. All students are guaranteed a spot in their core classes. More information about courses and registration will be emailed to you over the summer.
  • We suggest students arrive a few weeks before pre-term courses start to prepare for the program. International students entering on an F-1 visa are permitted to enter the United States up to 30 days prior to the program start.

Housing

Housing for graduate students at UC San Diego is based on a first-come, first-served basis. Incoming students are highly encouraged to apply for housing as soon as possible so that you can find accommodation appropriate to your budget.

I-20 & Visa Process – International Students

I-20 and visa paperwork are handled by the International Services and Engagement Office (ISEO). The Rady School does not issue I-20 paperwork and is unable to advise on immigration issues.

UC San Diego uses a system known as iPortal for I-20 services. iPortal will be open March 18th. The UC San Diego International Services and Engagement Office (ISEO) will begin reviewing submitted I-20 applications at that time.

You must first accept the admissions offer via the application platform before beginning the I-20 request process. Please allow at least 7 business days after receiving this deposit confirmation email to set up your UCSD password and log in to iPortal. I-20 document processing time will be 15 business days upon receipt of a complete application.

  • Step 1: Gather the required documents I-20/Ds-2019 Funding Requirements for 2024-2025
  • Step 2: Answer Initial Questions – please make sure your address matches your application.

    • You may log into iPortal to check the status of your application

A WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is required for students who attended an international institution only once they have been admitted. Details are below. Please do not send official documents to the Graduate Admissions Office. As an international applicant, you must submit a WES Course-by-Course evaluation via WES once you have been admitted for your admission to UC San Diego to be finalized. Please click here to learn more.

**All questions regarding the I-20 process should be directed to the International Services and Engagement Office via their contact site. Rady admissions staff cannot provide I-20 or visa document advising.

Official Documents

All admission offers are considered Provisional until official documents are submitted and verified Final. Official documents are due by the start of the program and are to be submitted directly to the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs Admissions office (not the Rady School Admissions team). Submission instructions are provided on the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs website. Do not submit partial or in-progress transcripts or evaluations. A WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is required for incoming international students. WES Course-by Course Evaluation should be submitted only after the degree program has been conferred. Instead of sending official documents to the Graduate Admissions Office, international applicants must submit a WES Course-by-Course evaluation via WES once admitted for your admission to UC San Diego to be finalized. You will be given your UCSD Campus ID Card at orientation. Instructions for how to submit your ID card photo, along with the deadline, will be communicated to you during the summer. Students will not be able to take a photo at the Campus ID Card Office. Once you are given your UCSD Campus ID card, you will receive a number of discounts with the card.

UC Health Requirements

The University of California is committed to protecting the health and well-being of all students. All of the UC campuses implement procedures to ensure that students are educated about and receive vaccinations to prevent potentially serious and contagious diseases. All incoming students are required to review and meet the UC Health Requirements.

Incoming students do not need to submit health requirements at this time; more information about submission will be provided in spring 2024.

UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP)

Health insurance is a mandatory non-academic condition for enrollment at UCSD. To ensure that all students have adequate health coverage, UCSD automatically enrolls all registered students into the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP). Please click here to learn more about waiving UC health insurance. Please note: Students must wait until they are registered for classes to begin the process of waiving UC SHIP. More information about class registration and UC SHIP waivers will be sent to you this summer. The deadline to submit this waiver is September 14, 2024. All incoming Full-Time MBA students have to download, complete and submit a Statement of Legal Residence (SLR) found here.

Attach your completed SLR in an email to residencedeputy@ucsd.edu with your name and PID in the subject line as soon as possible. Please note that you may not receive any notification back; this is ok! The Residence Deputy will notify our team about 6 weeks before the start of Fall quarter.

At the Rady School of Management, we are here to make sure you have guidance every step of the way. The Master of Finance (MFin) checklist and links below will help you stay on task. Please note: if you have not submitted your deposit you may not be able to access some of the links below. Once your deposit is confirmed by the MFin program, please allow 7-10 business days for your account to be created. Once your account is created, you will be able to set up your UCSD password.

Orientation & Program Start Dates

Master of Finance required orientation begins September 12, 2024.

  • The length of orientation is still being finalized.
  • Class instruction begins Thursday, September 26, 2024.
  • Admitted students who enroll in the program are required to arrive on campus in time for the Master of Finance Program Orientation. Incoming students moving to San Diego are encouraged to arrive in August.
  • Incoming students will register for Fall 2024 courses in late summer. All incoming students are guaranteed a spot in their core classes. Information about courses and registration will be provided in late summer 2024.

Housing

Housing for graduate students at UC San Diego is based on a first-come, first-served basis. Incoming students are highly encouraged to apply for housing as soon as possible so that you can find accommodation appropriate to your budget.

Visit the following links for On-campus and Off-campus housing options. International students entering on an F-1 visa are permitted to enter the United States up to 30 days prior to the program start.

I-20 & Visa Process – International Students

I-20 and visa paperwork are handled by the International Services & Engagement Office (ISEO). The Rady School does not issue I-20 paperwork and is unable to advise on immigration issues.

UC San Diego uses a system known as iPortal for I-20 services. The UC San Diego International Services & Engagement Office (ISEO) will begin reviewing submitted I-20 applications at that time.

You must first accept the admissions offer via the application platform before beginning the I-20 request process. Please allow 7 business days after receiving this deposit confirmation email to set up your UCSD password and log in to iPortal. I-20 document processing time will be 15 business days upon receipt of a complete application.

  • Step 1: Gather the required documents ISPO 2024-2025 I-20 Funding Requirements
  • Step 2: Answer Initial Questions
  • Step 3: Upload the Requested Documents
  • Step 4: Allow 15 Business Days for ISPO Advisor Review
    • You may log into iPortal to check the status of your application

**All questions regarding the I-20 process should be directed to the International Students & Programs Office via their contact site. Rady admissions staff cannot provide I-20 or visa document advising.

Official Documents

All admission offers are considered Provisional until official documents are submitted and verified Final. Official documents are due by the start of the program and are to be submitted directly to the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs Admissions office (not the Rady School Admissions team). Submission instructions are provided on the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs website. Do not submit partial or in-progress transcripts or evaluations.

A WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is required for incoming international students. WES Course-by-Course Evaluation should be submitted only after the degree program has been conferred. Please do not send official documents to the Graduate Admissions Office. International applicants must submit a WES Course-by-Course evaluation via WES once admitted for your admission to UC San Diego to be finalized. Please click here to learn more.

U.S. citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to qualify for federal aid. Federal aid includes federal student loans. UC San Diego’s school code is: 001317

All questions regarding federal financial aid must be directed toward the UC San Diego Financial Aid & Scholarships Office.

Required Pre-program DataCamp Modules

Incoming Master of Finance students are required to complete pre-program DataCamp modules on the fundamentals of Python. These modules prepare students for early success within the MFin program. The entire set of modules will be approximately 45 hours of work and are to be completed prior to the start of orientation. Access to the required DataCamp modules and instructions will be provided in summer 2024 prior to the start of the program.

UC Health Vaccination Requirements

The University of California is committed to protecting the health and well-being of all students. All of the UC campuses implement procedures to ensure that students are educated about and receive vaccinations to prevent potentially serious and contagious diseases. All incoming students are required to review and meet the UC Health Requirements.

Incoming students do not need to submit health requirements at this time; more information about submission will be provided in spring 2024.

UC Health Insurance Requirement

Health insurance is a mandatory non-academic condition for enrollment at UCSD. To ensure that all students have adequate health coverage, UCSD automatically enrolls all registered students into the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP). Please click here to learn more about waiving UC health insurance. Please note: Students must wait until they are registered for classes to begin the process of waiving UC SHIP. More information about class registration and UC SHIP waivers will be provided by Student Health Services to you this summer. The deadline to submit this waiver is September 14, 2024. If you miss this deadline, you can submit your waiver by September 20, 2024.

Campus ID Card & Photo Submission

You will be given your UCSD Campus ID Card at orientation. Instructions for how to submit your ID card photo, along with the deadline, will be communicated to you during the summer. Students will not be able to take a photo at the Campus ID Card Office. Once you are given your UCSD Campus ID card, you will receive a number of discounts with the card.
