Academic Advising
Our Graduate Student Affairs team is here for you throughout your journey. As a student at the Rady School, you have a dedicated Graduate Program Coordinator and Advisor helping guide you through your academic, professional, and personal journey. They will orient you as you transition into your studies at the Rady School and at UC San Diego. They will also help you develop an educational plan that meets your academic goals, monitor your progress toward program and degree completion, facilitate course registration, and connect you with resources across our campus.

Our Advising Philosophy
Graduate Program Coordinators and Advisors in Graduate Student Affairs are committed to helping students achieve their academic and personal goals at the Rady School of Management. Our holistic approach emphasizes not only academic planning and progress, but also self-care and wellness, educational enrichment, and personal and professional development. We believe advising is a collaborative relationship. As such, we encourage and expect students to be active and engaged participants in the advising process.
Advisor Responsibility
As professional academic advisors, we will:
- Understand and effectively communicate and monitor degree requirements, policies, and procedures
- Provide a respectful and welcoming space to discuss student interests, goals, questions and concerns
- Guide students in researching and selecting appropriate courses and educational experiences to match their interests
- Encourage students in defining and developing realistic educational and personal goals
- Connect students with campus resources and services
Student Responsibility
Students are expected to be responsible for the following in their relationship with academic advisors:
- Be active and informed participants in the advising process
- Take initiative to reflect on, define, and act on educational and personal goals
- Read emails and other communications sent from Graduate Coordinators and Advisors
- Become familiar with the information on the Graduate Student Affairs Canvas course and Handbook, and use these as references
- Be aware of registration-related deadlines and take action as appropriate
- Keep appointments with advisors; come to advising sessions prepared with a list of questions and issues to discuss
- Follow through on suggested actions, resources, or referrals
