Joe Gladstone

Assistant Professor of Behavioral Sciences and Marketing

Joe Gladstone is an Assistant Professor of Behavioral Sciences and Marketing at the UC San Diego Rady School of Management. His research blends behavioral economics, consumer psychology, and large-scale data analytics to understand how people make—and can be helped to make—better financial decisions. Before joining UC San Diego, he co-directed the Center for Research on Consumer Financial Decision Making at the University of Colorado Boulder and held prior faculty appointments at University College London. 

Gladstone’s work has appeared in leading journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Psychological Science, and Journal of Marketing Research, and it is frequently featured in outlets including the BBC, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes. He was named to Forbes’ “30 Under 30 – Finance” list and selected as a 2023 MSI Young Scholar, alongside multiple best-paper accolades. Gladstone earned his Ph.D. and M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge, an M.Sc. from the University of Oxford, and was a Fox Fellow at Yale University. His teaching at Rady focuses on the psychology of financial decision-making and consumer behavior, equipping students with evidence-based tools to improve individual and societal financial well-being.
