Our Partnership with San Diego

Rady's Partnerships Fuel Economic Growth in San Diego

San Diego has business opportunities found nowhere else (plus ocean views and 300 days of sunshine). San Diego is the third largest life sciences market in the nation and the sixth for regional investment in tech. The business culture in San Diego is a big draw as well: it’s mission-driven, collaborative, and focused on life-changing impact. For Rady faculty and students, this means an ever-growing network of global connections and opportunities.

The key to San Diego's successful development of innovative industries is the unique, collaborative environment cultivated by the region's top technology companies. We foster strong partnerships with the business community in San Diego and globally, creating long-term relationships between the Rady School and our corporate partners.

The nexus between companies, research institutes and universities, San Diego is the ideal medium to create growth in ground-breaking technologies. A few examples of our partnership activities:

Border Innovation Challenge

San Diego is an economically vibrant binational region with the busiest border crossing in the world.  The Border Innovation Challenge is a competition focused on spotlighting promising solutions and technologies to meet the efficiency and security challenges of this port of entry. Supported by the Smart Border Coalition, the program is presented through a partnership of the Rady School of Management and the Jacobs School of Engineering and is open to students, faculty, staff, and recent alumni (no more than 5 years post-graduation) from universities along the US/Mexico border region.

Our Partnership with San Diego Military Advisory Council

In 2020, the Rady School established a partnership with the San Diego Military Advisory Council (SDMAC) to provide research support for SDMAC’s Military Economic Impact Report (MEIR). The MEIR is an independent annual study to comprehensively quantify the impact of defense-related expenditures on the San Diego region’s economy.

More information about this partnership and the most recent MEIR can be found here.
