After receiving his Ph.D. in Accounting from University of Texas at San Antonio in 2014, Marcus Brooks served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada from 2015 to 2020. He then worked as an Assistant Professor in the Lamden School of Accountancy at San Diego State University in 2020 before joining the Rady School of Management at the University of California, San Diego in 2024.
Before pursuing his doctoral studies, Brooks worked as an Audit Associate for Deloitte and as a Gas Accounting Analyst for Direct Energy between 2008 and 2010. He became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed to practice in Texas in 2009.
Using the knowledge gained from his professional experience, Brooks’ research explores the impact of corporate governance on accounting practices, financial reporting, and auditing. His work has been featured in notable publications such as Accounting Horizons, Advances in Accounting, Journal of Applied Accounting Research, Advances in Accounting Education: Teaching and Curriculum Innovations, and The CPA Journal.
