Behavioral Lab FAQs

Is there a difference between being a "Class Credit" Participant and a "Paid" Participant?

Yes! Someone who needs to participate in a Atkinson Behavioral lab study as a requirement for one of their classes is a "class credit" participant. Others who want to participate in Rady Incentives Lab studies to be compensated are considered "paid" participants.

Do I need to be a UC San Diego student to participate in the Rady Behavioral Lab studies?

The Atkinson Class Credit Labs are just for students, but you do not need to be a UC San Diego student or affiliated with UC San Diego to participate at Rady. Others who want to take part in our studies will be able to participate as paid participants at the Rady Incentives Lab.

Will I get paid for participating in experiments?

Participants are compensated for taking part in our experiments in various ways. Depending on the experiment, participants may receive class credit, they may be paid a certain amount of money, they may be paid based on their performance on a task, or they may be entered in a raffle to win a prize. The compensation scheme for each experiment is provided with the experiment description

How do I register in the labs’ subject pools?

Important to note: There are two different subject pools.

  • To register for class credit studies in the Rady Atkinson Behavioral Lab subject pool, you need to create an account on SONA here.
  • To register in the paid Rady Incentives Lab subject pool, you will need to create an account on SONA here. You will need a valid email address to create this account.

You must create an account in the correct SONA system in order to either participate for class credit or to be compensated.

Are my answers confidential?

Absolutely! All answers submitted to us will be kept confidential. Responses will never be associated with the specific login or participant. We will never know which answers are yours.

Can I participate in an experiment more than once?

Most of our experiments can only be taken once. There are some exceptions. Each experiment will be labeled according to whether or not it can be repeated.

Is there an age requirement for participation?

You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in studies. If you are under the age of 18 and require class research participation credit, please email the lab manager.

How can I learn more about an experiment?

If you have any questions about class credit experiments, please email RadyClassCredit@ucsd.edu.

If you have any questions about our paid experiments, please email lab@rady.ucsd.edu.

How do I unsubscribe from the Rady Lab?

E-mail lab@rady.ucsd.edu for paid experiments or RadyClassCredit@ucsd.edu for class credit experiments.
