Business Minor (M074)

The Business Minor provides students with a broad understanding of business theory, practices, and applications within the fields of marketing, accounting, finance, operations, and ethics. This minor is beneficial to students of all majors who envision careers that require a foundational knowledge of business principles.

Students majoring in International Studies - International Business, Business Psychology and/or Business Economics cannot declare a minor in business. Likewise, students who have declared the Business minor cannot declare the Entrepreneurship and Innovation minor due to an overlap of upper-division core requirements.

To assist with your planning and to review course descriptions, click on the course’s title on Rady’s Tentative Schedule of Classes on Rady’s undergraduate webpage.

Important Policies:

  • All courses must be taken for a letter grade and passed with a grade of C- or better. Students must finish the minor with an overall minor GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Students may overlap 8 upper division units between their major and minor. There is no restriction for overlapping lower-division units.
  • A minimum of 5 courses for the Business minor must be taken at UC San Diego.
  • At least 5 courses for the Business minor must be upper-division.

Declaring the Minor

The Business minor is open to registered UC San Diego students pursuing a bachelor's degree, except students pursuing a minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and/or a major in International Studies – International Business, Business Psychology, or Business Economics. There is no separate admissions process. It typically takes a minimum of three quarters to complete the Business minor. We encourage students to declare the minor as soon as possible, to ensure you are meeting all program requirements. In addition, Rady sends important information regarding class offerings and policy changes to our minor students through our minor list.

You may declare a minor through Tritonlink by using the Major/ Minor Tool. For more information on how to declare, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.
