Profile
Amanda Silver's research examines how rejection in the workplace shapes people’s ability to pursue their goals. She focuses on the emotional, behavioral, and physiological dimensions of anticipating and responding to rejection throughout career trajectories including networking, a critical process for successfully launching and advancing in one’s career. She studies how women respond to rejection in professional settings and designs interventions to help them persevere through these challenges. Her work spans longitudinal field studies and lab experiments exploring gender differences in networking, emotion regulation, and performance under pressure. She continues to uncover the factors that contribute to gender inequity in leadership, and develop interventions to close gender gaps. Silver has received an NSF honorable mention and the Rady Women in Leadership Ph.D. Award from The Long Family Foundation. Prior to pursuing her Ph.D. at UC San Diego, she founded College Magazine, authored the book Qualified: You Are More Impressive than You Realize, and led keynotes on confidence, leadership, and career success.
