Ion Nemteanu

Profile

Professor Nemteanu’s career spans Fortune 100 healthcare and life sciences, nonprofits, startups, and academia, where he has led AI transformation initiatives and taught graduate-level data science and AI courses across San Diego’s major universities.

He is currently the Director of Data, Analytics, and AI at the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. Previously, he served as an AI advisor and entrepreneur, partnering with startups to build AI-driven products, adopt responsible AI practices, and cultivate high-performance data teams and culture.

Ion was the former Executive Director of the Business Analytics (MSBA) Program at UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management, where he launched the school’s first AI-Assisted curriculum and led large-scale, industry-embedded analytics and AI projects with organizations across the region and beyond. Prior to UCSD, he held leadership roles in data science and advanced analytics at Thermo Fisher Scientific and Becton Dickinson (BD), where he led initiatives that improved supply chains, strengthened sales and marketing performance, and deployed AI products that hospitals still use today to manage lab costs, medication safety, and inventory operations.

Ion has taught data science and AI ethics at several San Diego universities and professional education programs, and he volunteers with the Data Science Alliance as a Working Group member supporting ethical, community-focused AI initiatives.
